Tattoo After Care
When you leave you will have a cling-film dressing. You are advised to keep this covered until the time advised by your tattoo artist, at which point you can commence with the advised after-care.
Rinse your tattoo twice daily when bathing or showering. It is advisable to use soaps and shower gels that are perfume free during the healing process. Remember only to pat dry and never rub your tattoo. After 24hrs you will start to produce a scab that will protect the surface of your tattoo. Scabs can be uncomfortable but you must be patient. Do not itch, pick or scratch your tattoo as it can remove colour and cause scarring. You can use some simple moisturiser to help with itchiness and dryness, such as aqueous cream bp, E45, cocoa butter or an anti-inflammatory like bepanthen.
DURING HEALING AVOID:
Direct sun, chlorinated pools, saunas, sun beds, prolonged soaking, scratching, picking, sweat or strain from exercise. Also avoid clothing that may stick or rub, poor personal hygiene or poor diet.
SO KEEP IT CLEAN, KEEP IT PROTECTED AND DON'T SCRATCH!
Infections can develop easily on a new tattoo since it is an open wound. Be sure when touching and applying cream or lotion that your hands are clean. Wear loose fitting clothing and try to keep the affected area in a comfortable position while healing. An infection is usually a result of neglecting after-care. Signs of infection include excessive redness and heat, prolonged swelling and soreness. Again, if in doubt get in contact with us immediately.
USE COMMON SENSE.
The after-care of your tattoo is of the utmost importance. If you follow the advice as it is outlined on this sheet and take good general care, you should have no problems. If you do not keep to these procedures you can run the risk of local infections or potentially blood poisoning.
THIS IS A GENERAL AFTER-CARE GUIDE. IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK. IF IN DOUBT, PHONE OR COME IN PERSON AND WE WILL HAPPILY ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.
ENJOY YOUR TATTOO!
